Since June 2024, The Coach Travel Group – a network of UK coach operators – has been focused on delivering seamless travel services while expanding rapidly through acquisitions.
The Coach Travel Group provides transport services, including private coach hire, contract hire, and day trips and holidays throughout the UK and Europe for businesses and the public.
However, early in the group’s formation, it became clear that operating on multiple technology platforms would create inefficiencies and hinder collaboration across businesses.
Laying the Foundations for Growth
Alpine Travel, a coach operator in North Wales and part of The Coach Travel Group, had already been successfully supported by Layer 4’s cloud solutions. So, when the group started its search for a technology partner to transform their IT, Layer 4 was a natural choice. They wanted a secure, modern cloud-first ecosystem that could scale easily with future growth – and we ticked every box.
Unifying IT for Seamless Operations
The first step for Layer 4 was to work closely with The Coach Travel Group and review the existing IT setup across the network.
We identified the opportunities and efficiencies which could be made and tailored a cloud solution and migration plan that could be implemented with minimal disruption to their 14 businesses that operated 24/7: a secure, scalable Microsoft ecosystem leveraging Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) and Microsoft 365.
Benefits from the Initial Migration
The impact was seen as soon as the migration journey began. Employees could now work at any depot and use any device. Collaboration and productivity across the multiple businesses became more efficient. Costs were reduced by eliminating on-premises servers and hardware, while security was strengthened to a level that allowed the group to achieve Cyber Essentials certification and later Cyber Essentials Plus.
